the vineyard, winery and our winemaking style

Our estate vineyard currently consists of Viognier, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Sangiovese, Merlot and Petit Verdot planted over ~7 acres of our 50 acre property. We have plans to expand in the future, but we also partner with other Virginia vineyards in Rappahannock and surrounding counties as needed based on our estate production each year.

Glenn and Tina are the owners/winemakers. We like to refer to ourselves as a Mom & Pop, small production, boutique winery. We produce our wines on-site in beautiful Rappahannock County. We offer a carefully selected variety of Olde World wines prepared in classic European style while endeavoring to adhere to modern sustainable agricultural and production practices. Our winemaking style is to produce smooth, easy drinking wines that express the terroir of our site and that of local sites we partner with, as well as the particular vintage - including the year's weather and resulting fruit. Every step of the process is done by us and our team (and sometimes volunteers!) - from vineyard management and harvest, to production and bottling.

Our whites are typically whole-cluster pressed and fermented and aged in stainless steel. Our reds are aged in a combination of new and neutral French and American oak, with some Hungarian as well. We lean towards drier-style wines, but we also offer off-dry and sweet wines, including two produced with fruit wine (strawberry and blackberry). We currently produce 1,000-1,200 cases per year with a goal of offering wines carefully crafted for your enjoyment.

our current wines

Below is our current wine lineup. Please note that it may change in the tasting room before the website is updated. However, while the vintages and flavor profiles may change, the wine blends and varietals we offer are generally consistent.

Black Walnut White

The 2022 vintage of our signature white wine blend has a soft floral and citrus nose, lemon and mild peach on the palate with a hint of honey. 75% Traminette, 12.5% Viognier, 12.5% Vidal Blanc.

Vidal Blanc

The 2022 Vidal Blanc white wine varietal is done in a dry style in stainless steel. It has a touch of citrus and mineral on the nose. The aroma is met with a burst of grapefruit on the palate and a clean, crisp finish! 100% Vidal Blanc.

Viognier

The 2021 Viognier is a medium-bodied white wine with tropical notes on the nose. A crisp wine with hints of citrus on the palate, a creamy mouth feel, and a soft mineral finish. 100% Viognier.

Battle Mountain Blush

Named after Battle Mountain, the view from the front vineyards, our off-dry style rosé is a strawberry/grape wine blend and has a delightful strawberry nose and a crisp fruity finish. 40% Strawberry wine, 40% Traminette, 20% Viognier, with 1.75% sugar.

Felice

Felice is Italian for “Happy” and this 2023 vintage is a dry rosé wine done in stainless steel. It has an earthy and slightly woodsy nose, berry notes and light pepper on the palate, and a lingering finish. 100% Cabernet Franc.

The label features our winery pup Vinnie and our dear sweet Maggie, who is no longer with us, but they both make us happy!

Sorriso

Sorriso is Italian for “Smile”. The 2023 is a dry rosé wine, aged in neutral oak for 10 months. It has cranberry and some floral notes (like oleander) on the nose, and stone fruit and vanilla on the palate. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon.

The label features our newest winery pup, Sangie, because she makes everyone she meets smile!

Cabernet Franc Reserve

The 2021 Cabernet Franc Reserve has vanilla and spice on the nose, a creamy palate with soft vanilla, and a pleasant earthy and spicy finish. Don’t be fooled by its color, this is a flavorful wine with a nice balanced structure. Aged 20 months in neutral and new oak. 100% Cabernet Franc.

Cabernet Sauvignon

The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon has a fruity nose with a hint of leather, a medium-bodied earthy palate, giving way to a long spicy peppery finish. 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot.

Hawkins Run Red

Our 2021 signature Bordeaux-style red wine blend has a pleasing nose of pepper and spice with hints of cherry and cranberry. It has a fruit forward, flavorful palate, and a subtle peppery and vanilla finish. 50% Petit Verdot, 35% Cabernet Franc, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon.

The label features our winery pups, all adopted from RAWL, our local no-kill shelter. $1 from each bottle sold goes to the shelter!

Petit Verdot

The 2021 Petit Verdot has an upfront nose of earth and leather, a dark and fruity palate with a thick, velvety mouthfeel and a youthful sour cherry finish. 100% Petit Verdot.

Pazzo

Fruity and delicious, Pazzo is Italian for “Crazy”, and we hope you’ll be crazy for this semi-sweet blackberry/grape wine blend. 5% sugar.

The label features one of our original winery pups, Olie, who was a bit crazy!

larboard

Larboard is a red dessert wine made in a tawny port-style from Chambourcin grapes, fortified with brandy distilled from Viognier grapes. Aged 3 years in bourbon barrels, it’s drinking well now but will age nicely for many more years. It has a bright fruit, but rich and bold nose, with a bit of cherry and oak. The palate is fruit forward with a touch of lingering light sweetness and a full-bodied finish. 19.5% alc, 3% sugar.
